The definitive Psion vs. Wizard rant, courtesy of Phil.

Can’t say I can argue against it, to tell you the truth.

You see, this is exactly my point… that post is blatent mis-information to the point it is all out propaganda… There are so many non-truths in that write up you should mark it as Fiction.

Phil needs to look at the books again and read them for real this time.

$1 to the first person who will go through Phil’s rant and give Book and Page numbers either supporting or refuting his specifc claims.

Unless you’re Phil. He doesn’t get the dollar :)

Lets see… Expanded Psionics Handbook.

1) Page 36. Psions have 9 different class types and have different Class and Cross Class choices for each. They are not all exactly like the wizard any more than they are all exactly the same.

2) Page 42. Psions do not get their psi crystals at lvl 1 for free… they have to burn a feat to have one.

3) page 42. Boost Construct has absolutely nothing to do with your Psi-Crystal last time I checked they aren’t asteral constructs.

4)Page 23. You cant choose whatever +2 you want, there are specific benifits to each of the personalities picked when you create it. Just like familiars…

Thats just from page 1… not reading the rest of that bullshit again. Its a scary thing when you disregard the facts and post fictions as truths. But then again… this is the web where you just need a half idea what your talking about to spew forth “knowledge”.

$1 to Greg.

Now, for complaint #1 – everyone knows that psions are not just like wizards; that’s part of the point of the essay. It’s hyperbole. I can’t give you credit on that one.

#2 – Good point, I’ll incorporate it into the essay.

#3 – Same as #2, good eye.

As for #4 – What you say is true. However, the wording in the essay is confusing, and is not at all what is intended. I need to fix the wording in the essay. The whole point is that you don’t have to trade a psi-crystal’s specific boost for a specific mode of travel. In other words, I don’t have to have a land-traveler (cat) to get a boost to move silently; i can get a move silently boost with a flying psicrystal. Half a point for this one – no one ever meant it the way it sounds.

So, 2.5 errors (and, let’s be honest, they were mistakes, not intended to mislead anyone) on page 1. I’m still not convinced that it’s all propoganda. There are at least a half a dozen other points on page 1 that are absolutely true. Anyone else want to earn a quick dollar on page 2 or page 3? I’d like to get this thing as accurate as possible.

I also don’t think we have to reduce the discussion to things like “spewing forth” and all of that. Making an honest mistake isn’t the same as intentionally misleading or even the same as going off half-cocked.

“Except for the fact that my access to psionic disciplines gives me three more useful skills to invest points in.”

Misleading:
Psicraft C for some of them… while spellcraft CC all. -1
Autohypnosis: C for 5, CC for the fun ones -1/2
Knowledge (Psionics): All 1

so… 1 1/2 for that.

Although it doesn’t say cc for the base classes… I blame that on not updating the core book.

I’ll post this over at the Psion HQ at Wizards and see what they can do with it. Let the games begin.
